About Us

Microsoft, the world’s largest software company, with flagship products including Microsoft Windows and Office is also keenly focused on working with academic institutions and academicians globally. In India, there are several programs launched aimed at delivering the power of technology to the student community. Some of the notable initiatives for the academic community include Imagine Cup, Microsoft Student Partner Program, etc.

Founded on 1975, Microsoft has been a leading innovator of software technologies, with specific thrust on innovation aimed at making technology ubiquitous and pervasive. Technology has the ability to exponentially impact the lives of people and widen their horizons. Microsoft’s vision is to make technology accessible, affordable and relevant to all, specifically in developing economies like India, where it can truly impact the lives of billions and help them realize their potential.

As the next step in this long standing, sustained work with the academic community, Microsoft is now introducing this unique All-India inter-college student initiative called “Go A-Live Challenge”. This is an effort to introduce digital communication & collaboration services and bring colleges across India into the information technology era through a joint and interactive effort driven by the students and faculty.

This fun and innovative contest aims to provide students with an opportunity to explore their creativity, develop their IT skills and simultaneously provide them with an avenue to network with alumni as well as current students and faculty.

Under the initiative, every institute will get unlimited individual college e-mail IDs for current & future students, faculty and alumni free of cost along with a website. This along with additional collaboration services will enable the college community to share information, keep in touch with each other, stay updated with the latest around campus and interact in a professional manner with prospective recruiters.

More importantly, the tools provided in this initiative allow all of this to be developed, in a very simple and easy manner by a student team (guided by a faculty member). Free of cost, these services will give the institute an edge over any regular college website because of the following:
  • Sense of student & faculty belonging, as the complete system will be built by them
  • Individual e-mail IDs name@collegename.edu (or .org/ .in/ etc.) at no cost (5GB mailboxes, built-in virus & spam protection, at home/ college/ cyber café access)
  • Integrated Windows Live services which allows student & faculty to:
  • Share papers, assignments, pictures, documents online
  • Instantly connect with each other using messenger
  • Automatically updated common college calendar for classes, holidays, etc.
  • Store & share upto 1GB of files through a personal hard-disk on the internet The contest has attractive prizes associated with it both for the campus as well as the team members. The winning campus will also be featured in the Microsoft India website.
